Post-1994 the South African government has partially adopted the policy of the Heroes Acre in public cemeteries to give communities a way to honour those who played a significant role in local, national and international affairs, but in practice, the implementation of the Heroes Acres has been fraught with inconsistencies and shows only a narrow view of the country’s heroes.
